Kanye West?

Ok, this is not me being pithy or clever or anything, but me asking an honest question:
Who the Hell is Kanye West, and why am I supposed to care about what he thinks???
I'm serious!
As you might know, I don't watch TV. No cable. No antennae. I watch DVDs if I watch anything. No MTV. No Entertainment Tonight. If I want news, I listen to NPR or check CNN.com (ok, and FARK). I listen to Indie 103 & KROQ.

Suddenly, it seems, everybody wants me to care about what this guy is saying. Why?

I saw this on FARK today:

WEST REVEALS RACIAL LINES IN SLANG USE

Hip-hop star KANYE WEST is advising his white counterparts that they can only use certain slang terms when they're out of style for black people.

The JESUS WALKS rapper - who recently charged that US President GEORGE W BUSH "doesn't care" about African Americans - believes that certain slang words should only be able to cross racial barriers when they're no longer in style for black people.

He says, "I think white people are allowed to say 'bling'. They are allowed to say old-school black slang, like 'hottie' and 'homie'.

"Actually, I do not think that (white people) are allowed to use slang until it is at least a year old. If you say a slang word too early, it's like you're trying to be black. So as long as the slang is a little played out, you're all good."

First off, Bush cares about Black People if they are millionaires. He only sees green. Whatever...

MY problem is somebody telling me how I'm ALLOWED to talk. (Frankly, I think ANYBODY who uses phrases like 'Bling' and crap like that sounds like an idiot. You don't sound cool. You don't sound ironic. You sound like a moron...)

I guess I’ve cut myself off from Pop culture lately, and let me tell you something, even though I rarely know what people are talking about anymore, I feel like the smartest guy in the room.

I've been told lately that I've become a "TV Snob", because I won't just sit there and watch whatever is on. Um, yeah! My time is precious. Someday, I'll be dead. I'm tired of going to visit friends and having the Television on THE ENTIRE TIME!

Holy Shit! Whatever happened to conversation? This was supposed to a post about this music guy I don't know. It seems to have gone astray, but I feel better...

What do you think?

Personally nothing pisses me off more than someone telling me whatI can and cannot do(someone telling me what I can and cannot think is almost as bad excpet their inane nature is so evident I try not to waste any precious time on them).

Slang is slang. I tend to use terms indesciminately from all over the globe, and have been known to say:
"bloody", "bugger", "git", "fag" (as in cigs), and even "lift" (as in elevator).
How dare someone have the audacity to set time limits on when slang words become "available". What is black? what is white? What is american? Good gods, what is human?
Does this indivudal presume to see into the heart of society and make the decision of who fits where?

Go back to your hole Kanye West. Once you're over the blush of embarassment perhaps we can actually talk.
